About the artistI was born and raised in Indiana. With a log home in Nashville, IN., and a home in Michigan near my son, I spend much of my time creating fused glass art that is both functional and decorative. I started my passion with glass 12 years ago teaching glass mosaics to adults with developmental disabilities. I am drawn to glass because of its viscosity under heat. Most of us know glass to be hard and rigid, but the artistry begins when I can plan and execute how I want the glass to change. Using heat, physics, and molds, a sheet of glass can be transformed into a sculptural rendition of nature. The delight I feel in creating a fluid, smooth, flowing piece of art is my motivation and my addiction. My goal is to elicit that flutter or feel of warmth in the viewer’s soul. In fusing glass, the process incorporates the science and technical knowledge of how glass reacts to heat in the kiln at various temperatures. In glass mosaics, the creation comes forth like a puzzle that must be completed from the image in my mind. My work has been accepted into many juried shows, and is currently available in Michigan and Indiana galleries.
