Update: program will begin on June 30th and end on August 11th. Register soon!
Focus is a photography course for young artists created by EastEnd Studio & Gallery. This course will teach students the elements of art and basic photography skills. The class will also be centered around the value of self-portraiture, and the role identity (race, class, gender, etc.) plays on the art created by well-known artists. Students will incorporate this knowledge into their art making during the course. Self-portraiture also refers to the use of photographing places or objects the artist uses to represent themselves.
The skills students will learn can also be applied to other artistic mediums they may be interested in. Additionally, Focus will equip students with the knowledge and vocabulary to discuss social issues as we see them portrayed throughout art history.
The class will use cell phones and photo editing apps, which are accessible and mostly free to use. Students who own their own cameras are welcome to incorporate them into their work during the course. Space is limited, so please register quickly to reserve your spot.
The class will meet once a week on Fridays for 2.5 hours in the Albion College Bobbitt art Center. From noon to 2:30 June 23rd – August 4th. (7 weeks)
Class will include:
