Eastend Studio & Gallery is a 501 ( c ) 3 non-profit organization since 2011. The purpose of Eastend is to encourage, promote, educate and cultivate the arts throughout Marshall and the surrounding area. We exhibit local and regional art. By bringing our creative community together, we strive to improve the lives of our artists and enrich our community at large through exposure to visual art and art education.
Founded in 2006, EastEnd Studio and Gallery operated as an artist co-op until 2010, that included a handful of artists and community members, EastEnd began as a grassroots movement which sought to ignite a renaissance in artisan products and the cottage industries. It has become a destination for fine art. |
In March of 2012, EastEnd found its home at 143 West Michigan Avenue in the Wagner's Block Building in historical Marshall, Michigan. Our building was designed by Chicago architect, John Mills Van Osdel. It was created in the Second French Empire Style.
Many wonder why our building is called the Wagner's Block. Named after Captain George Wagner, built in 1870-71, Captain Wagner held his patent office on the 2nd floor for medicines he held patent to in the late 1800's. Since then, the building has been home to several mercantile businesses.
EastEnd was started in 2006 by Michael Peck, an experienced painter who lived and worked in NYC, who now resides in Marshall. Shelly Preston and Kimber Thompson were instrumental in it’s development. We began as Greenstreet Arts, in Marshall’s Masonic Temple, with around 13 artists.
We acquired larger space, and received grant funding that allowed us to develop a successful education program. We now show 55+ artists in our exhibition space and in our gallery shop.

It is the goal of Eastend Studio & Gallery to offer a cost-effective exhibition space for artists, and to bring new and challenging art exhibitions to the public. Our gallery promotes the intermingling of art: a space where traditionally high art, such as oil paintings or bronze figures, can be shown around jewelry, decorative fine art, and other mediums. An additional goal of ours is to renovate the upper levels of our historic building in order to operate our fine art institution at full capacity, with several classrooms and artist studios.
Eastend is thankful for the foundations and individuals that have generously given to us so that we may come closer to completing these renovations. A comprehensive list of our contributors can be found here.
